Market anarchism - finances, faith, family and foreign affairs

July 4, Hypocrite’s Day

Posted by adam.dada on July 5th, 2006

July 4th has meant less and less to me over the years as my freedom viewpoints have gone from merely financial to becoming a moral outline for how I should treat others and how I should expect others to treat me. This July 4th was the nail in the coffin in terms of my celebration of the “national” holiday. The majority masses are definitely long gone from reality, and there is little reason for me to try to negotiate with them. I have no choice but to financially support them in all of their madness (from war to welfare), but I am no longer afraid to speak my mind to them.

My July 4th was a morning to night “day off” of visiting various friends, family and community neighbors for picnics, barbeques and cookouts. The day became more tragic the more I brought up the topic of Independence and what it really means. My first stop was to a friend of mine and long time customer, a 45 year old family man and Christian. His house hung a huge nationalist flag, and the picnic was overwhelmingly nuclear families of Christian-minded folks. I had to leave after just 1 hour with all the congratulatory back padding in support for this group’s voting for Bush in the second term. I asked what Bush’s war-mongering, lying, cheating and cronyism had to do with July 4th, and nearly everyone looked shocked that I couldn’t see that war was freedom, that terror was evil and that anarchy was immoral. Did they not recall that the freedom fighters in 1776 were considered anarchists by the King of England, who was one of the most powerful men in the world at the time?

The second visit was to a very close friend’s family picnic, which was held at his Christian church. The topic of Romans 13 created furor when I explained that they were wrong in their belief that Romans 13 meant full submittal and that if they held that to be Truth, then the War for Independence was evil. The furor was quickly turned to laughter when someone mentioned that I was probably just a liberal rabble-rouser — instead of winning the debate with facts, they attempted to win the debate with perjoratives. I’m not a neoliberal, nor am I not a neoconservative; I would never align myself with with political schemes of plunder and fraud.

The third party was mostly foreigners who didn’t have much to say about war or treachery from the U.S. government as they all were familiar with government in their home countries — also treacherous and warmongering. These folks were just partying to drink and eat, so the event was pleasant if not a little heavy in terms of alcohol proof. No one really cared about what was happening to the U.S., and few had any concern about the direction. Better than the last 2 picnics, but still imperfect.

The final party was another batch of WASPs, this time composed of nearly a 50/50 ratio of neoliberals and neoconservatives. When I brought up the Romans 13 issue, the neoconservatives believed that we humans have some way to realize what governments are God-blessed and what governments are cursed with sin. We don’t. The Bible doesn’t differentiate between those groups anymore, not with Christ’s offer of salvation and the great sacrifice He made for us. How is it that Christians do not see that the Old Testament was God offering us an eye-opening view of human sin, and that he didn’t change his mind or his attitude or his opinion on it all? War is always sin, government is always evil, and there is only one kingdom to support — the Kingdom of the Lord.

Another day goes by that I see that the majority of believers in the Christian doctrine believe in nothing but man, and I have no time to join in their tragedy. They are wrong, and if they don’t see the Truth for what it is — love, love and love, then they are pagans to me. So are you, Mr. Bush. So are you, Mr. War Supporter. So are you, Mr. Anti-Muslim, Mr. Anti-Korean, and Mr. Anti-France. I love you and am ready to help you find the error in your ways and your wars.

The men of 1776 committed a great sin in fighting the King as they did. If they were truly Christians they would have loved their enemy and walked in the ways of the Lord, not in the ways of the people who failed God repeatedly in a book that is nothing more than history for those who have found the Savior. There is only one form of independence that matters anymore — independence from sin.
