Smoking part II — the facts?

Does second hand smoking cause cancer?

A 1993 EPA study says it does. This study has been the basis for hundreds of laws and regulations and anti-smoking groups who have moved forward to denounce smoking on private property — the buildings owned by others.

Of course, these same authoritarians who want to tell you how to act in your own home and business forget to mention that the Supreme Court overturned the 1993 EPA document as fraudulent and full of conflicts with itself. Even the crazy controlling Congress presented their problems with the EPA study. Of course, Congress is loved by the Tobacco industry, so who knows what their reasoning was behind it?

Then the US Federal Court spent taxpayer dollars to investigate the study and they realized that the study was bunk. The federal court’s decision decision overturned the EPA report (which has finally been taken off their website about 10 years after the fact!).

Years of studies after this finding have shown time and again that second hand smoke does not cause lung cancer at any higher rate than in people who don’t inhale it. One of my favorite bars is the Mark II Lounge in Chicago — the owners have been there 40+ years every day. Some of the bartenders have worked there 20-30+ years. You’d think some of them would have lung cancer by now. Not one of their employees, owners or 4 kids (who grew up in the bar from the ages of 2) has had any cancer.

Lung cancer is caused by radon, by radiation, by sunlight, by some exhaust, and by genetics. We’ve been smokers for hundreds of years now, and only recently has lung cancer risen. Don’t throw your garbage “scientific” documents at me to tell me that I’ll get cancer because my significant other smokes.

Even better, don’t you dare tell me what to do in my home, or in my business. If I own a restaurant, I’d rather you don’t come to visit if you think you can control how I run things. Authoritarianism is force, and I abhor and repudiate all force used against a peaceful citizen.
